Three Mile House
Edwardsville, IL 62025
This site once featured an inn that was believed to be haunted by ghosts of various adults and children, including slaves. It has been said that the old inn was once a stop on the Underground Railroad and that during renovations in the 1970's, a skeleton and underground tunnels were found. Eerie things began to happen, including furniture that moved by itself, flickers and orbs of light, water turning on and off on its own, the piano playing by itself, shadowy figures, napkins that folded and unfolded by themselves, and much more. A seance took place and determined that the ringleader of the ghosts was Tom, a slave who escaped and accidentally killed a woman. Because of this, he was brutally murdered. Tom was a religious man and stories say that his spirit is not yet at peace. The inn burned down in the 1980's and today the site is just a grassy mound.
