Krome Family Cemetery

In about 1972, four of us teenagers went to the old mansion to hangout/explore on a Saturday night. I remember seeing a young boy, maybe 12-13 years old behind the house. Surprised that a young boy was out late on a dark night we walked toward him to see if he was OK. He “moved” away from us and jumped into the well. Fearing for his safety we ran to the well but it was dry and there was no one in it. I still wonder nearly 50 years ago what we saw. We went to the family cemetery, which was a very short distance away, and I remember a grave stone of a young boy with a death date of 1848, as I remember. My wife and I just visited the cemetery and the area is nothing like it was all those years ago, except the damage to the grave stones. Great to see there’s still a bit of information on the old place!

My dad looked into buying the place back in the early 70s when i was a teen. It wasn't a mansion, it was a typical Victorian 2 story farmhouse with a dirt floor cellar. It needed a total rebuild and modern wiring so he passed. The cemetery was at the side of the house about 25 yards south. The house was burned by the local fire department for training purposes and all the farm ground was developed into a golf community. The cemetery isn't in the woods. It's neatly enclosed in shrubbery and small trees behind one of the greens. The original roadway that once passed by both the house and graveyard was altered considerably during the development. Of course, it had been abandoned for decades, and being just out on the edge of town, every local kid insisted it was haunted and most of the old folks played along. I never saw anything spooky about the place and I've lived here my whole life. It was just sad and dilapidated looking..
