While it now stands as an antique mall, at one time it was a hotel. The hotel opened in 1914 and featured what was the largest swimming pool in the state of Illinois with mineral water that cured. The hotel stood 5-stories tall and featured terrazzo floors, marble staircases, and art glass bringing the feel of luxury.

By the 1950s, it began to see signs of deterioration. By 1971 it closed down for good. By 1978 restoration began to develop the property into a mall that would feature shops and restaurants. In all its history and grandeur, the place is said to be haunted. There are 3 defined ghost that are believed to exist here. It includes that of The Jasmine Lady who is identified by here floral perfume; George who is the artist who painted the mural in the Crystal Room bar (he died before finishing it); and Cassandra, a little girl who reportedly drowned in the pool and enjoys playing marbles.

While the hotel is no longer in operation, the antique mall known as Mineral Springs Mall regularly offers tours.

Great Location

1. The picture is NOT of the Mineral Springs in Alton. Please fix that. Picture is Paoli Indiana’s Mineral Springs Hotel, not the one in Alton.
2. It is under new ownership and no longer available for investigations. I was able to attend the last investigation. Maybe it will reopen to investigations at a later date, but it’s unclear for now.

Pool area haunt

On our first investigation we were given the tour of the pool area and while our tour guide was explaining about the pool my left side got freezing cold. I told one of my investigator's to take a photo of me and there was a blue orb on my left arm. It was August and very hot in the area.

Haunted Mineral Springs

The Illinois Ghost Society investigated there 3 times. Each time there the most activity was the pool area. The tour guide was telling us about Cassandra the little girl that drowned. We made sure there were no marbles in the pool after setting up we left and came back after midnight. Upon returning to do an EVP session we found 3 marbles in the deep end of the pool. One occasion we got a little girl EVP and one time a team member got poked in the back, and we saw a dark figure. The second floor was very active too, we contacted an old civil war soldier that is said to have lived there.

Mineral Springs Haunts

“Cassandra” aka Cassie didn’t drown in the pool. There is no death documentation to support that. It’s merely “local lore”. There is a Clarence Blair who drowned in the pool with documentation to support it. I’ve had MANY paranormal experiences in ALL areas of the building. Especially upstairs with Pearl and two other females in nearby rooms. A must visit! For more info about experiences I’ve had, please visit Haunted Road Media on YouTube. We would love to connect with you guys!
