In Spring of 1981, I was walking at night from Morris Library through Thompson Woods to my dorm on Thompson Point. I was walking down the "right side path." At that time, there were 3 or 4 large logs/trees that were felled over the small stream running down the length of the woods that people used to cross over to the other side. I was about halfway down and approaching one of the logs. Then I heard a whimpering, crying sound, and saw what looked like a woman walking back and forth across the next log. At that time at SIU, there were quite a few Arabic/Muslim exchange students attending. And the women would wear the traditional full length covering common in Islam. I thought it was one of those women. Her outfit was a pale blue that glowed somewhat. I stopped walking about 50 feet away and called out to her asking if she was alright. "She" kept pacing back and forth "over" the log whimpering. I walked closer and as I did I realized "she" was not walking across over one of the logs, but was in the air. Walking on air. I looked around to see if there were any lights that could project an image like this. There were a few light posts but they were yellow glass. I was a little freaked out, and quickly turned around and went mack to the library. Then I went back to my dorm, the long way down the lighted streets.

When my dad used to tell me stories of when he was a student here and he would see shadows and felt like something touched his arm. he told me a story of when he was walking on campus he looked around and saw an apparition of something following him but he did not feel uneasy or freaked out, He said something about the apparition was friendly and knew the campus really well.
