Dana-Thomas House
Springfield, IL 62703
This historic home now operates as a museum where witnesses who have visited or worked have reported some eerie occurrences. These include humming voices, curtains that move on their own, chairs that are thrown down the stairs, and a woman's apparition wearing black. Many believe the woman is the home's original owner, Susan Lawrence Dana, who is said to have held seances here in the early 1900's. Reports say that the hauntings are known to happen on specific days, such as Dana's birthday, the day her mother died, or the days of the three funerals that were held in the home.

Just toured this amazing home yesterday. As our group was filing through the second floor Master bedroom area, I was the last in line. We next entered into a smaller adjoining room which we were told by the Guide was the Nursery. (Sadly both of the babies born to the original owner had died in infancy). After our group left the room, I lingered behind for a few moments to look at the Christening Gown ( which the babies never wore and still has the price tag on it). Suddenly I was overcome by an intense feeling of sadness and sorrow. It was overwhelming and quite powerful. I felt a deep heaviness in my chest and felt like there was someone standing behind me. I felt a strong urge to leave the room and proceeded to do so. However, our group was moving slowly and I had to wait in the doorway for others to move forward . I was feeling claustrophobic and anxious. Finally, I was able to leave the room and felt like I was being followed down the hallway....I kept looking behind me and had a strong sense of someone or something was standing in the doorway. The sadness lingered with me for the remaining tour and it was not until I exited the house that I felt relief. As a footnote, I pulled our Guide aside and told her what I had experienced and she confirmed that a psychic medium (who had been there previously) had indicated the Nursey Area is indeed haunted.

Some friends of mine told me the place was haunted. We were all pretty young. This would have been 15 years ago or so. Well we went and sat outside the building. We saw a see threw woman standing in the window in a night gown with her hair blowing around. The windows had all fogged up as if someone had taken a shower and the condensation was on the glass. We took the tour the next day, we discovered that was her bedroom windows. There were about 5 of us that saw this.
