This hotel is extremely old and has quite a few ghost stories surrounding it. It was built over 100 years ago, becoming The Congress Plaza Hotel in 1908. It has been said that gangster Al Capone once lived here, while other reports say he once owned the hotel and used it for his headquarters. When research was done though, it was said that Al Capone actually never stayed here but witnesses say his spirit may linger the halls of the hotel.
Guests have reported that Room #441 is one of the most haunted and that you can see a shadowy figure of a woman inside it. There's also the story of "Peg Leg Johnny," who was murdered at the hotel long ago. A workman was said to be buried behind the walls of the hotel when it was being built, and it has been said that his gloved hand sticks out of a wall in the closets behind the balcony in the Gold Room. This room is also rumored to be haunted by some bridesmaids who like to gather around the piano for photos but do not actually show up in the pictures.

Nice hotel. I have stayed here twice. I have experienced No hauntings. I sprinkle my rooms with sage.

We stay here a lot because I love the old school charm of it and the history. The first time we stayed here our closet door opened and shut for over an hour in the middle of the night, I slept with the lights on. The next time we stayed we decided to go look around the whole hotel and see where these rooms are that they say are hunted. The 12th floor in the one tower, when you walk through it, you can feel the energy change, it feels so heavy on you and it gets hard to breath. As we walked around it, this one door started slam open and shut, we left right away because the energy was so bad and went back to our room.

I used to work with them and one of our house keepers one day said that she saw a little girl by the stairs she was really scared that the next day she called me to quit.
A lot of the house keeping lady’s have told me they experience things like that but they try to not pay attention and ignore them.
