Ashmore Estates
Ashmore, IL 61912
Built in 1916, this historic building was used as an almhouse until 1959. The private psychiatric care facility has been featured in books and TV shows as a haunted place. It is believed at Elva Skinner, one of the patients who died of a fire here haunts the property. Others account of hearing ghostly voices and seeing ghostly shadows during their stay.
The historic building stood abandoned for many years after it closed. It reopened again as a commercial haunt house in 2006. In 2013, it suffered a violent windstorm and suffered extensive damage. Today the property is under renovation. The new owners have plans to keep the property open to further paranormal investigations.
